Tanya Hakimian: Event Planner at Weddings By Totally Tanya

I have been living in Israel for 35 years, though I originally grew up in London. Having spent significant time in both countries, I bring a unique understanding and cultural perspective that my clients appreciate. This dual experience equips me with the language skills and industry knowledge needed to deliver the best outcomes for my clients.

My journey into event planning began when I organized my oldest daughter’s bat mitzvah. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the process, from planning to execution, and the event was a resounding success. The positive feedback I received afterward inspired me to pursue event planning as a career, and I was completely hooked from that moment on.

What range of services do you offer? Day of or in advance?

In the world of event planning, each milestone marks a significant moment in life, a cherished memory waiting to be crafted. Whether it’s the joyous celebration of a bar or bat mitzvah, the romantic bliss of an engagement party, the landmark of a milestone birthday, or the dreamlike splendor of a wedding, every event deserves to be nothing short of perfect. This is where I step in.

From the inception of the idea to the final guest departing, I provide a seamless event planning experience. I take pride in curating events from start to finish, meticulously attending to every detail. My process includes:

  • Venue Selection: Finding the perfect location that aligns with your vision and needs.
  • Vendor Coordination: Sourcing and managing vendors, from florists and caterers to photographers and entertainment.
  • Design and Theme: Crafting a cohesive look and feel that reflects your personality and style.
  • Logistics Management: Ensuring everything runs smoothly, from transportation to timing.
  • Day-of Coordination: For those who have already planned their event but need professional assistance on the day itself, I offer specialized day-of coordination services. This ensures that every element falls into place flawlessly, allowing you to immerse yourself in the celebration without any stress.

Weddings: A Special Passion

Weddings hold a special place in my heart. The union of two people in love is a profound and beautiful event, and I am honored to play a part in making it unforgettable. From intimate ceremonies to grand receptions, I tailor each wedding to the couple’s unique story, ensuring every detail is infused with meaning and magic.

Making Memories Last

Creating memorable events is more than just a job for me; it’s a passion. Each milestone event is a new opportunity to bring joy, laughter, and lasting memories to life. My goal is to ensure that every moment is savored, and every detail is cherished.

What is your favorite part of weddings in Israel?

As a wedding planner, my favorite part of weddings is the chuppah. It requires meticulous planning, concentration, synchronization, and skill to execute flawlessly. The chuppah is also the most emotional aspect of the wedding, a profound and special moment. Being part of this sacred ceremony is truly an honor and a privilege.

How do you help couples manage their wedding budget?

Maintaining a wedding budget requires deep industry knowledge and experience. Having worked in the event planning industry for 14 years, I’ve built strong relationships with a network of trusted professionals. These connections allow me to secure excellent deals, ensuring my clients receive top-notch services while staying within their budget.

Understanding the couple’s vision and priorities is key to effective budget management. By focusing on what the couple envisions for their wedding, I can allocate the budget strategically, ensuring their dreams come to life without financial strain.

Can you offer some advice on how to choose a band or DJ?

When choosing the perfect band or DJ for your wedding, it’s important to consider a few key factors. Start by discussing your musical preferences and the atmosphere you want to create. Think about whether you prefer live music or a DJ who can mix a variety of genres. Ask for recommendations from friends, family, or your wedding planner, and check online reviews to find options with a good track record.

Experience is crucial, so look for someone who has performed at weddings before. Attend live performances or request demos to get a feel for their style. Finally, meet with potential bands or DJs to ensure they understand your vision and can deliver exactly what you want. Make sure everything is clearly outlined in a contract, from song choices to setup and breakdown times. With these steps, you’ll find the perfect music to make your wedding day unforgettable.

As a wedding planner, I stay updated on the latest trends and innovations by reading wedding publications, and engaging with social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest.

How do you stay updated on the latest wedding trends and innovations? Have Israeli wedding trends changed noticeably in the last 20 years?

Over the past 20 years, Israeli wedding trends have evolved significantly. We’ve seen a shift from traditional banquet halls to unique and picturesque venues such as outdoor locations, vineyards, and beachfront settings. While traditional Jewish ceremonies remain important, couples are increasingly personalizing their weddings with modern twists and unique rituals. Technology plays a major role now, with live streaming, drones, and interactive photo booths becoming common. Sustainability is a growing focus, with eco-friendly choices like locally-sourced food and recycled decor gaining popularity. Culinary trends have also advanced, featuring innovative experiences like gourmet food trucks and international fusion menus. These evolving trends reflect a broader desire for weddings that are not only beautiful and meaningful but also personalized and contemporary, ensuring each celebration is as unique as the couple it honors.

Do you have a signature style or specialty when it comes to planning weddings?

As a wedding planner, my specialty lies in my ability to navigate interpersonal dynamics with ease. Clients hire me not only for my planning expertise but also for my personable nature and adeptness at managing family drama. I excel at keeping everything running smoothly and maintaining a calm, even keel, which is greatly appreciated by both my clients and the vendors I work with.

What is the biggest wedding you ever planned in terms of total attendees?

The largest wedding I’ve planned was a stunning affair for 450 guests at Olmaya in Jerusalem. The event was truly spectacular, showcasing the grandeur and beauty of both the venue and the celebration.
