Your wedding film is the one vendor deliverable you can’t reshoot. Before you sign anything, these ten questions separate a videographer who will quietly nail your day from one who will leave you with surprises — missing audio, a year-long wait, or footage you don’t actually own.

Before you book: why the right questions matter to Jewish videographers
Price alone tells you very little. Packages vary enormously — from a single shooter with a highlight reel to a multi-camera crew delivering a full film — and so does what you actually get for the money.
Use the ten questions below to make a package comparable, apples to apples, before you commit.
1. Have you filmed a Jewish wedding before?
Experience with the specific traditions is the single biggest predictor of a great film. Ask to see work from an actual Jewish ceremony — not a generic reel. A seasoned Jewish wedding videographer will have plenty to show.
2. Do you understand the order of the ceremony?
From the ketubah signing to the bedeken, the chuppah and the hora, the day moves fast. Your videographer should be able to walk you through the sequence without prompting — that’s how you know they’ll be in position for each moment.
3. What exactly is included — hours, cameras, crew?
Pin down the number of operators, cameras, total coverage hours, and whether prep and the reception are included. “Full day” means different things to different studios.
4. How do you handle audio?
The vows, the blessings and the speeches live or die on sound. Ask how they mic the officiant and the couple, and whether they record a backup audio source. Beautiful images with muddy audio is the most common regret.
5. Can you livestream for guests who can’t travel?
If family can’t make it — especially for a destination or Israel wedding — a professional livestream lets them watch in real time. Confirm the setup, the backup connection, and whether a recording is provided.
6. Who owns the footage, and what rights do I get?
This one surprises couples. Under U.S. copyright law, the person who films generally owns the copyright — what you typically receive is a license to use the film, not ownership of it. Indiana University’s library guide on copyright for photographers and creators explains the principle clearly. Get your usage rights, the raw-footage policy and any sharing restrictions in writing.
7. What’s your backup plan?
Gear fails and people get sick. Ask about backup cameras, dual memory-card recording, and what happens if your assigned shooter can’t make it. A professional has clear answers.
8. When will we receive the final film, and in what formats?
Delivery times range from weeks to many months. Get the timeline in the contract, along with the formats (highlight film, full ceremony edit, raw footage) and how the files are delivered.
9. Can we see a full sample film, not just a highlight reel?
Highlight reels are designed to dazzle. A full ceremony or reception edit shows you how they handle real pacing, audio and the unglamorous middle of a day.
10. What’s the payment schedule and cancellation policy?
Understand the deposit, the balance due date, and what happens if plans change. Clear terms now prevent stress later.
